Vasco ‘to agree’ terms with Racing for Santiago Sosa after Buenos Aires meetings | OneFootball

Vasco have moved significantly towards signing midfielder Santiago Sosa from Racing, with terms aligned after meetings in Buenos Aires and a package of US$ 8 million being arranged.

According to NT Vascaínos, Racing granted up to 15 days for the opening payment at Vasco’s request, with the club forecasting stronger August cash flow. The Argentines accepted on condition they receive US$ 3 million to US$ 4 million first, before releasing paperwork.

Vasco are working to ensure the funds land in time, aware the terms could shift slightly in the coming days. The current preference to sell is for Vasco, though Cruzeiro have registered interest and are monitoring.

The São Januário side have accelerated contacts and added representatives of Marcos Lamacchia to secure the financing plan. If the international transfer is formalised within the deadline, the football department would apply its R$ 100 million annual budget to register him. Head coach Pedro Emanuel views Sosa as an ideal leader for the midfield.

Sosa, 27, came through River Plate’s academy, then spent three seasons with Atlanta United in MLS, showing defensive consistency and assured distribution. Racing later bought his rights and made him club captain in the last Argentine league campaign.

Vasco plan to register him for the Copa do Brasil round of 16 if the move is completed in time. Meanwhile, talks continue over Colombian Nelson Deossa and the club are tracking forwards.
