Vasco to honour Geovani with mosaic and matchday tributes against Bragantino | OneFootball

Vasco will pay tribute to club great Geovani, the 'Pequeno Príncipe', who died on Monday aged 62, when they face Bragantino at São Januário.

According to Globo.com, plans include a pre-match mosaic in the social stand and a video on the stadium screen.

Players will wear a special patch, with further touches on the match pennant, corner flags and the Vasco captain's armband.

Against Olimpia last Wednesday, the kit carried a black ribbon below the Cross of Malta as a sign of mourning.

The wake took place on Tuesday in Vila Velha, his home city, at the Igreja Maranata da Praia da Costa, attended by family, friends, former players and supporters.

Across three spells with the club, Geovani scored 50 goals in 408 games. He began at Desportiva then joined Vasco as a youth in the early 1980s, helping to win state titles in 1982, 1987, 1988, 1992 and 1993.

He also represented Brazil, winning the 1989 Copa América and captaining the side that claimed silver at the 1988 Olympics alongside Bebeto and Romário. Before that, he featured for Brazil's youth teams.
