Vasco will not move for a No 10 in this window, instead putting faith in Johan Rojas amid Philippe Coutinho’s likely departure and a lighter wage bill.
According to PaponaColina, Coutinho asked to leave after the Volta Redonda match, and a probable contract termination would trim about R$ 1.5 million per month. The window closes on 3 March.
Two factors underpin the stance. Time is too short to source, negotiate and land a ready creator, and Rojas has impressed, offering the dynamism Fernando Diniz wants, which supports staying the course until at least mid-year.
Market focus remains a starting holding midfielder. The club are targeting loans or expiring contracts and will not burn the Coutinho savings on fees now, aiming to keep the budget balanced.
The financial firepower is being kept for the mid-year window, when the European season ends and opportunities should improve. The plan is for targeted moves in the international market in the second half of the year.
Internally, Rojas is set to lead creation while minutes across the squad are managed. Prospects Estrella and JP could go on loan in Série A or B, following GB, who joined Fortaleza until season’s end, to return readier for selection.
