Vasco have turned down recent loan enquiries for Marino Hinestroza during the World Cup break, choosing not to open talks.

According to Globo.com, the approaches came from overseas clubs via the player’s representative, and the club rejected them all. The board believe he needs a run of games to adapt to Brazilian football, and that a move abroad on loan would bring no sporting or financial benefit.

Vasco accept they must reinforce the squad in the second half to try to escape the Brasileirão Z-4. While pushing to finalise Deossa, they are also seeking a centre-back and a centre-forward.

Inside the club, the view is that Hinestroza is battling confidence and expectation, with on-pitch anxiety limiting a repeat of his Atlético Nacional form, especially early in 2025. Some in the football department feel the staffs of Fernando Diniz and Renato struggled to integrate him.

Short of peak fitness, he had difficulties with Fernando Diniz’s training methods at the start of 2026. He was used earlier than the medical team considered ideal, and public comments by Renato about Colombians also did not help.

Announced on 27 January, Hinestroza has played 18 times for Vasco, starting five. Despite the slow start, the hierarchy believe the investment could still pay off in the second half, and they intend to add another winger to raise competition alongside Andrés Gómez, Nuno Moreira and Adson.
