Barcelona remain focused on securing the long-term future of Joao Cancelo, with the Portuguese defender continuing to make it clear that his connection with the club remains as strong as ever.
After spending the second half of last season at the Catalan club, Cancelo established himself as an important figure within Hansi Flick’s plans.
His versatility, experience and ability to operate on either flank made him a valuable asset, and Barcelona are now working to ensure his stay extends beyond the temporary agreement.
While negotiations are still ongoing, there is growing optimism that all parties share the same objective: keeping Cancelo at Barcelona.
The club’s sporting department has been exploring different solutions for weeks as they look to reach an agreement with Al Hilal.
It is known that Barcelona value Cancelo highly, particularly because of the tactical flexibility he offers.

In fact, Hansi Flick views squad versatility as a key component of his project, which makes Cancelo one of the players the club would ideally like to keep.
However, as has often been the case in recent transfer windows, the financial structure of any operation remains the biggest challenge.
Barcelona are searching for a formula that would allow them to retain the Portuguese international while remaining within their financial limits.
Discussions with Al Hilal remain active, and although there is goodwill from all sides, some details still need to be resolved before a final agreement can be reached.
One factor working in Barcelona’s favour is the player’s position.
Cancelo has repeatedly expressed his affection for the club since arriving in Catalonia, and his latest comments have once again expressed that feeling.

Currently representing Portugal at the World Cup, the defender was asked about Barcelona during a press conference ahead of his country’s clash against Uzbekistan.
“I really like Barça, but playing for Portugal is different. I’m representing my country, my friends I used to play with on the streets.
“It’s a pleasure for me to be here,” he said, as per SPORT.
Although the focus of his comments was naturally on Portugal, the statement once showed his positive relationship with Barcelona.
Within the club, there is a belief that the player’s desire to continue at Camp Nou could become an important factor in helping negotiations reach a successful conclusion.
