VfL Osnabruck’s supporters unveiled a functioning rollercoaster tifo during their cup tie with Bayern Munich, a breathtaking centrepiece that drew global attention despite a first-round defeat.

The spectacle lit up Bremer Brucke on 2 September, with a dummy-filled carriage gliding along rails built from wooden battens, plastic tubing and fabric. The cart even triggered a simulated flash at a photo station, projecting an image onto the right terrace.

The BBC reports that the club said the enormous choreography took months to prepare, designed to capture club heritage under a banner reading VfL Osnabruck, a rollercoaster ride. It referenced a history of ups and downs, from the 1978 win over Bayern to scandals and bitter defeats.

The home crowd roared along to a special anthem, “Funpark Bremer Brucke”, and Osnabruck struck a surprise fifth-minute lead. Bayern turned it around through a Harry Kane brace, with further goals from Tom Bischof and Michael Olise securing the comeback.

Fresh from lifting the third-tier title last season, Osnabruck now pivot to the grind of 2. Bundesliga. Retaining second-tier status remains the priority for a club yet to reach the top flight, and the performance against the Bavarian giants should offer belief for the battles ahead.
