Kicker reports that VfL Wolfsburg – based on the recent results from training camp – are presently ready to entertain offers for five players. Mohamed Amoura, Tiago Tomas, Vaclav Cerny, Aster Vranckx, and Yannick Gerhardt could all be on the move away from the Bundesliga outfit before the transfer window closes. Concrete offers for the first two players could see matters move quickly
The fact that Wolfsburg were looking to flip Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura is not new news. It does now nevertheless appear as if a legitimate taker has been found. SL Benfica are prepared to put €40m on the table for the 25-year-old. Kicker claims that Wolfsburg are seriously considering the offer whist Amoura (thigh injury) remains doubtful for Wolfsburg’s DFB Pokal opener on Saturday.
Amoura may have played his last game for Germany’s green company team. The same applies to German veteran Gerhardt and Belgian midfield talent Vranckx, neither one of whom featured under new head coach Paul Simonis during the pre-season. It remains unclear if any specific clubs are interested in the duo, but both have proven their potential at a very high level.
Cerny did contribute a strong camp under Simonis and it seemed almost certain that the Czech international would be remaining with the club. Kicker nevertheless reports that Cerny’s strong pre-season may end up being precisely the factor that leads to his departure. Wolfsburg may be eager to cash in on the €8m-valued attacker.
Tomas’ reported on move to VfB Stuttgart counts as the most likely deal to be wrapped up quickly. The former Sporting CP professional enjoyed a great deal of success in the Baden-Württemberg capital. There should be nothing standing in the way of the 23-year-old making a return to the Bundesliga outfit at which he spent 18 months on loan.
Tomas scored four league goals in 14 appearances for Stuttgart in the spring of 2022. His performances toward the end of the season helped the Swabians avoid the drop in dramatic fashion on the final matchday. In the subsequent 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign, Tomas added four goals and five assists in 33 Stuttgart appearances across all competitions.
Stuttgart were known to have wished to purchase Tomas permanently at the time, but weren’t willing to invest €15m in the attacker’s purchase option. Stuttgart still pursued Tomas during the summer, but it was Wolfsburg who ended up signing the Portuguese U21 international for €8.8m instead.
Tomas’ first year in the north German Autostadt was fairly forgettable, but the now 23-year-old did manage to score six league goals and add three assists for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Wölfe last season. In the process, he’s pulled his estimated market value up from €6m to €12m.
