The agent of former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is reportedly playing a part in the club’s challenging pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

United not making progress in chase for Gyokeres

United want to sign a new and reliable striker to lead the line next season, with Gyokeres one of the players believed to be on their list.

Gyokeres struck 54 goals in 52 appearances last term and a reunion with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford has been mooted.

However, the Swede favours a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal. Gyokeres has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, who remain in talks with Sporting to try and get a transfer over the line.

The deal is experiencing issues because Sporting have refused to budge on their valuation of Gyokeres. To try and force a switch to the Gunners, Gyokeres has gone on strike and refuses to return to the club until his future is sorted out.

Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that United have been offered the chance to hijack Arsenal’s deal for Gyokeres but the 27-year-old’s priority is still to join Arsenal.

But, it appears this is not the only factor making it hard for United.

According to Portuguese news outlet Record, Lindelof’s agent, who also represents Gyokeres, is “blocking” United’s deal for the striker.

Lindelof officially parted ways with United at the end of June after an eight-year stay. He left upon the expiry of his contract, with the club opting not to give him fresh terms.

“Record state, “we reveal that Hasan Çetinkaya, the agent representing the Viking (Gyökeres), was hurt by the way one of his other clients, Lindelöf, left Old Trafford.”

“The former Benfica defender’s contract expired, and he wasn’t given the green light by Rúben Amorim to renew it.”

Lindelof made 284 appearances for the Red Devils.
