After the San Antonio Spurs’ 136-111 win over the Miami Heat on Tuesday, Victor Wembanyama praised France’s football team and said he sees them as favourites for the 2026 World Cup.

According to L'Équipe, he spoke with enthusiasm at his post-game press conference as Les Bleus visit the United States for friendlies. France face Brazil in Boston on Thursday, then Colombia in Washington on Sunday.

He added that he had not offered Didier Deschamps’ squad any advice, that he watches them on television, and that he is excited for the tournament, which runs from 11 June to 19 July.

A keen football fan, the San Antonio player looked ahead with ambition, saying he thinks France are the favourites and that the spectacle will be incredible.

France are in Group I at the World Cup and will play Senegal on 16 June, a play-off winner on 22 June, then Norway on 26 June.
