Palmeiras forward Victoria Liss has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and will need surgery after being injured on 8 April against América do México in the Teal Rising Cup, the club said in a statement, adding the operation is expected within four to six weeks.

The 25-year-old faces a new ordeal only weeks after ending a 17-month lay-off with the same injury to her left knee.

She returned on 22 March, coming on after the break against Vitória and sealing a 6-0 win at Allianz Parque with a 44th-minute header.

She cried during the celebrations and was lifted by team-mates. Afterwards she said it felt like a relief, that the injury had been very difficult, and she thanked God, her family and everyone at Palmeiras.

Liss began at Centro Olímpico and had spells with Portuguesa, Taubaté and Ferroviária before joining Palmeiras in 2024.
