Chelsea’s team news for tonight’s game is out, and there’s one name on that team sheet that everyone is talking about.
After weeks of errors, Robert Sanchez has been dropped, with second string goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen coming into the team to replace him – this time, potentially permanently. It will have been a huge blow to Sanchez of course, but he can’t have any complaints. He was given plenty of rope.
Enzo Maresca had the following to say about the decision he made to change in goal:
“It’s always a hard decision to leave out players, especially in this case the keeper, it is not an easy one but I assessed it during the week… I spoke with [Sanchez] a few days ago, he’s now also tried to help Filip [Jorgensen] so everything is fine.”
Maresca also made a very strange face when asked about the decision on Sky Sports:
What’s that all about then?

This is the second season in a row that Sanchez has been dropped. If that sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is. Most of us could see from when Sanchez was signed that he was a poor choice. However that initial bad decision has since been compounded time and again by those in charge.
Firstly, it was bizarre to let Maresca make Sanchez his number one again this summer when Mauricio Pochettino had dropped him last season. Last summer was the time to make a big splash and sign a top goalkeeper. Instead we signed Jorgensen, who is younger and less experienced than Sanchez – and may not even be much better/
We’re happy he’s in the team tonight, but there are totally justified questions about his quality.
