Sporting CP bomber Viktor Gyokeres would relish the opportunity to work with Ruben Amorim once again, but he would only move to Manchester United under one condition.

The 26-year-old has been on a tear this season, scoring 52 goals in his 48 appearances thus far. The Swede had previous experiences in England, namely with Brighton, Swansea and Coventry, but he only reached stardom after joining Sporting in 2023 and working under the guidance of Amorim.

So after two sensational campaigns in Lisbon, the flourishing centre-forward is expected to move to bigger things, and he might have some unfinished business left in the Premier League.

In addition to Man Utd, Gyokeres is being linked with several other EPL giants, including Arsenal.

According to German journalist Christopher Michel, the free-scoring bomber has attracted the interest of the Gunners as well as Chelsea who are keeping close tabs on the situation. Moreover, Man Utd remain part of the race, as Amorim could have a major role in persuading the player.

Man United need Europa League triumph to secure Viktor Gyokeres

Nevertheless, Michel believes that the Red Devils will likely have to win the Europa League to have a realistic chance of prevailing in the race.

At this stage, UEL represents United’s solitary path towards Europe next season. Clinching the trophy would gain them access to the next edition of the Champions League, which would unlock sizable prize money.

In addition to the financial boost, participating in Europe’s elite competition would boost the club’s appeal. After all, Gyokeres would be more inclined to favour a suitor who guarantees him the opportunity to play on the biggest stage.

The Reds are preparing to take on Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-final. If they manage to get past the Spaniards, they will face the winner between Tottenham and Bodo/Glimt in the final.

If Amorim’s men fail to earn European silverware, they might have to turn to more modest and less costly profiles, like Liam Delap or Jean-Philippe Mateta.
