Viktor Tsygankov and Vladyslav Vanat refused to come on for Girona during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Leganés in the Liga 2 opener.

Both were named in Quique Alvarez’s squad and started on the bench. In the second half, when the 51-year-old head coach moved to introduce them, they declined to get ready. He later said Tsygankov was fine and in the squad, but chose not to change, adding he could not say more.

Girona were relegated last season, finishing 19th in La Liga, and the episode added to suggestions the pair do not wish to be retained by the Catalan club.

Tsygankov joined in January 2023 from Dynamo Kyiv. He has been linked with Celta Vigo, a La Liga side qualified for the Europa League.

Vanat arrived from Dynamo in 2025. Villarreal are among the clubs interested, and they will play in the Champions League this season.
