Villarreal’s players were assessed after facing Racing de Santander, with Pape Gueye and Nico Pepe on the scoresheet and key chances missed at vital moments.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Renato Veiga and Carlos Romero impressed with authority and composure, while Juan Foyth led the line well despite a major error in possession.
Luiz Júnior was uncertain under high balls yet tidy with his feet, and he could do little about the goals conceded. Mouriño played with force but suffered defensively on his side and missed a one-on-one.
In midfield, Comesaña struggled to control the game and conceded an avoidable penalty. Gueye protected the centre effectively and put Villarreal 2-1 ahead with a well-taken finish. Moleiro showed flashes but lacked depth in his play.
Pepe was among the most incisive, levelling at 2-2 with a superb strike. Ayoze Pérez was lively with his movement and, at 2-2, failed to convert a clear opening. Mikautadze started brightly but squandered two early chances.
From the bench, Gerard Moreno was active, Maciá added balance, Buchanan attacked his man, and Akhomach made his return.
