Villarreal regain Rafa Marín for San Mamés, Logan Costa and Partey out | OneFootball

Villarreal will have Rafa Marín back for Sunday’s trip to San Mamés, but Logan Costa and Thomas Partey miss out for the 21:00 meeting with Athletic Club.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Marcelino confirmed Marín is fit to be included, while Costa is awaiting tests on the knee opposite to the one injured in the summer, and Partey has quadriceps muscle problems.

The head coach indicated there will be changes to the XI. He said a performance like the one against Real Sociedad would usually keep changes to a minimum, but after a much poorer showing at Girona, changes are to be expected.

Marcelino urged his side to be more incisive away from home than in recent away outings. He noted their numbers on the road differ from those at home and, for various reasons, they have lacked edge as visitors.

Framing the Athletic clash, he defended Villarreal’s season. He highlighted being third after matchday 30 and in the top four since the start, adding that both teams finished on 70 points last term and that Villarreal now hold a 20-point advantage, which he said reflects their strong campaign while injuries have influenced Athletic’s lower output.
