Villarreal secure Alfon González loan, the signing Marcelino wanted | OneFootball

Villarreal have secured the loan signing of Alfon González from Sevilla until 30 June 2026, with an option to buy worth seven million euros that is not mandatory. The move delivers the wide player Marcelino García Toral wanted.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Sevilla needed to lighten their wage bill and all parties approved the move for the 26-year-old, born in Albacete on 4 May 1999. Villarreal had planned no reinforcements, with only LaLiga left after early exits from the Copa del Rey and Champions League, and they finish their league phase on Wednesday in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen at 21.00.

A right-footed winger who operates on the left, González came through Albacete, Getafe and Celta, with spells at Inter de Madrid, Racing de Santander and Real Murcia. He impressed for Celta in 2024/25, playing 26 league games with five goals and two assists, then joined Sevilla as a free agent.

His Sevilla start was disrupted by injury, a right ankle sprain in late September and a left soleus problem in early January. He featured in 10 league matches, four starts, scoring once, plus three Copa ties with one goal.

From 1 February, the winter window’s opening, Villarreal still regarded the squad as heavy. They expected Willy Kambwala’s long-term injury return and had added Argentine winger Thiago Fernández, agreed last summer and signed free from Vélez Sarsfield.

Manor Solomon, on loan from Tottenham, left for Fiorentina at his request. Ilias Akhomach was renewed and loaned to Rayo Vallecano until 30 June, while Fernández was also allowed to depart on loan to Real Oviedo after Marcelino viewed him as a club signing he had barely seen. González is the reinforcement the coach wanted.
