According to L'Équipe, Turkish Football Federation president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu confirmed on Monday that head coach Vincenzo Montella will stay in post, despite Türkiye's early exit from the 2026 World Cup after two defeats.
The group losses came against Australia, 0-2, then Paraguay, 0-1, the latter despite a period with an extra player.
It was Türkiye's first World Cup in 24 years, their previous campaign ended in a semi-final in South Korea and Japan. Despite clear statistical dominance, the team underwhelmed.
Haciosmanoglu said the federation will continue to back the coach and players. He argued this is not club football, that failures in clubs often stem from poor continuity, and that you cannot discard 15 players then sign 15 new ones.
He also praised the group that returned Türkiye to the World Cup, adding they would not be swapped for others met along the way.
Focus now turns to Euro 2028, with qualifiers due to start on 25 March 2027, and Haciosmanoglu said he expects the team to deliver similar successes again. Before that, Türkiye face the United States in their final group match in the night from Thursday to Friday, kick-off at four am, aiming to depart on a positive note.
