Vini Jr has been named among the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The former Flamengo forward, now at Real Madrid, is joined by fellow Brazilians Gabriel Magalhães and Marquinhos on the shortlist, with the ceremony to be held in London on 26 October.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Vini Jr, who came through Flamengo's academy before departing at a young age, has carved out a standout career in Europe.
The 30-player list also includes Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Declan Rice.
This 70th edition will break with tradition by moving from Paris to London. France Football has staged the Ballon d'Or since 1956 and, since 2024, has organised the event in partnership with UEFA.
The choice of London is intended as a tribute to Stanley Matthews, the inaugural winner in 1956 while playing for Blackpool.
It will also, at least for now, end the run of ceremonies at the Théâtre du Châtelet that began in 2019.
Flamengo are also up for the "best of the year" award, competing with PSG, Arsenal, Bodo and Bayern Munich.
