Vinicius taunted Diego Simeone at the Bernabéu after scoring twice, striding past the Atlético bench with pointed gestures and saying the goals were for Florentino. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the flashpoint left the visiting coach furious.
The pair’s needle dates to January’s Supercopa, when Simeone told him that Florentino would sack him. Then, Vinicius looked mentally on the fringes of Xabi Alonso’s Madrid after a high-profile snub in the clásico.
After his brace, and with Madrid down to 10, Vinicius repeated the message in front of the away dugout. Simeone sought a punishment that never came, while referee Munuera Montero instead took time to explain key decisions to both benches.
He outlined his reasoning for Fede Valverde’s red card and for awarding a penalty, but not another robust challenge. Arbeloa appreciated the rare clarification, even if he disagreed.
Off the pitch, offensive chants were heard before, during and after, which LaLiga and the Anti-Violence Commission will review. Away supporters were held back for almost an hour, with scarce, high-up tickets costing hundreds of euros.
Some Atlético fans vented at Madrid and targeted Vinicius, without racist incidents, and a group leader urged his section to avoid discrimination, with both clubs under UEFA scrutiny. The directors’ box hosted celebrities, including Ester Expósito with fellow actor Sergio Momo. Focus also lingered on a French player under intense scrutiny, who failed to convince and now heads back to Les Bleus.
