Palmeiras confirmed on Friday 24 that Vitor Roque sustained a left ankle syndesmosis injury against Jacuipense in the Copa do Brasil, and the club said he will undergo surgery.
The issue is the same as that faced recently by right-back Arthur of Bayer Leverkusen. The 23-year-old was hurt on 28 February against Mainz 05 after his foot became stuck in the turf.
Arthur had surgery in early March and was initially due back in training after about 12 weeks. He accelerated his recovery and rejoined group work in just six weeks.
Now cleared by the medical staff, the full-back has been named in the squad and should be available to coach Kasper Hjulmand for the Bundesliga meeting with Cologne on Saturday 25.
Recovery times for syndesmosis injuries vary with severity, any associated damage and the surgical approach. Typical timelines range from two to six months, with elite athletes often progressing faster under specialist supervision.
