Vitória have reversed course and plan to field Cacá against Corinthians on Saturday, a move that would trigger a R$ one million clause.
According to Meu Timao, the sides meet at 20:00 at Estádio do Barradão in the 12th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
On Friday morning the club’s website stated the centre-back would not feature. Hours before kick-off, Jair Ventura’s plan was to start him, which would activate the contractual penalty.
Cacá has started since his February debut and has contributed at both ends. He scored in the last league outing, a 2-0 win over São Paulo.
After that match, he said he had been told to stay calm, be ready to face Corinthians and that he would be on the pitch.
Injuries have thinned Vitória’s defensive options, with Neris, Camutanga and Riccieli in the medical department, leaving selection problems at the back.
Cacá is on loan from Corinthians and remains contracted to them until the end of 2028. Vitória are covering his wages in full and must buy him if they stay in Serie A.
