Odysseas Vlachodimos, formerly of Benfica, was confronted by Sevilla supporters after a 2-1 defeat by Osasuna left the Andalusian club in the relegation places.

According to Cope, a witness said around 80 fans gathered at the training centre, hurling insults as the squad arrived under heavy police escort and even avoided the official coach in an attempt to slip in unnoticed.

Police then blocked the exit to form a corridor, and players left in their cars, reportedly reaching about 200 kilometres per hour.

Despite the hostility, there were no reports of physical incidents as officers kept a lid on tensions.

Sevilla sit 18th in La Liga on 34 points, underlining the severity of their current plight.
