Tiago Volpi says he has not had offers to leave Grêmio and wants to stay, as competition for the number one jersey intensifies with Weverton nearing a move. He started under Luís Castro in Wednesday's defeat to São José at the Arena.

According to Globo.com, the Tricolor are close to confirming Weverton, who is expected in Porto Alegre on Friday.

Volpi said he has a contract until December this year and is working regardless of who comes in, adding that selection is for the coach to decide. He denied receiving proposals to depart and indicated he is open to whatever may happen in future.

Weverton, 38, took part in a farewell on Wednesday with tributes from Palmeiras, who released him without a fee. He should sign a three-year deal with Grêmio.

In eight years with Palmeiras, he lifted 12 trophies. Volpi described him as a proven winner and one of the country's outstanding goalkeepers, noting that Brazil's number of games makes quality across positions important.

He added that he admires Weverton and knows him well, and that if he stays he has no issue competing for the shirt while recognising the veteran's standing.
