Vozinha’s World Cup heroics have turned him into a global celebrity, his Instagram following soaring from 50,000 to nearly 30 million. After an emotion-filled American summer, the Cape Verde goalkeeper is savouring the spotlight.

According to L'Équipe, he was chosen by Sony to front a Brazil-specific promo for Spider-Man : Brand New Day, even pulling on a Spidey-themed shirt. The film was released in cinemas on Wednesday 29 July.

A 12-metre mural by local artist Boss Brito now adorns Mindelo on the island of Sao Vicente, saluting the country’s new icon. It depicts his save against Spain in Cape Verde’s first World Cup match, a 0-0 draw, set on a broad blue backdrop echoing the flag.

He also featured in the FIFA Legends Cup, a four-team exhibition on a tight pitch alongside Kaka, Carles Puyol, David Trezeguet, Javier Pastore and John Terry. Iker Casillas kept goal for the other side.

His reputation from the tournament was underlined by a place in FIFA’s fans’ XI. He received 39.6% of the vote, with no other player in that line-up polling higher, and was named alongside Rodri, Jude Bellingham, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.

His next club has not been confirmed, but the 40-year-old should continue in Chile with Colo-Colo. Under La Liga de Primeira rules, players cannot use nicknames on shirts and must display a family name, so he would likely wear Dias, the surname of Josimar.
