Vusumuzi Vilakazi comments on his first loss with Chippa United!
A challenging return to the dugout awaited Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi, as his first match back in charge concluded in a 3-0 loss to AmaZulu FC. The defeat at the Buffalo City Stadium marked a difficult start to his second stint with the club, following the departure of Luc Eymael.
In his post-match reaction, Vilakazi was candid in his assessment, acknowledging the scale of the task ahead. He described the situation as a work in progress, stating, “First thing I must say and admit that it’s a work in progress. I think we need to be honest with ourselves.”
He pointed to the team's strong start as a key positive, believing the match could have unfolded differently had they capitalized on their early dominance. “There were a lot of problems, and you can’t rectify everything overnight. But in this game, you can only take the positives because we started very well and we dominated the first half,” he explained.
The coach specifically highlighted a missed penalty as a pivotal moment, while refusing to assign blame to the player. “Had we converted the penalty into a goal, we would be talking about something else now. But by saying that, I am not blaming the player. Even top players in the world miss penalties, but it could have changed everything because we were on top of the opposition and scoring was just going to be a cherry on top for us.”
