According to Goal.com, Saudi sports journalist Walid Al-Faraj has stirred anger among Al-Nassr supporters with a cryptic post on X.
In three decades in sports media, he said he had never seen a fanbase defend referees so consistently at home, across the region or worldwide. He added that officials are usually the first to be blamed after matches, yet he said this season feels unusual and exceptional.
He did not mention a club, but many Al-Nassr fans flooded the replies convinced the comments were aimed at them.
The comments arrived after contentious calls in Al-Ahli’s 29th round Roshen League game against Al-Fayha. Although Al-Nassr were not involved, several foreign outlets suggested the club might have influenced decisions to help Cristiano Ronaldo secure the Saudi League title.
Al-Nassr lead the Saudi Pro League with 70 points, two clear of Al-Hilal and four ahead of Al-Ahli, with one game in hand on both.
Al-Faraj has previously clashed with the club’s supporters, notably over his repeated criticism of goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi during his Saudi national team outings.
