Luís Castro’s Grêmio drew 1-1 in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil last 16. According to Globo.com, centre-back Wallace was their standout with strong interceptions and cover.
Mirassol struck first, Bruno Santos got the better of Gustavo Martins. Amuzu was slow to recover on that move, then later levelled for Grêmio from Tetê’s pass.
Goalkeeper Weverton was not at fault for the goal and handled the basics securely. Diego Caito held his side defensively but added little going forward. Marlon struggled to combine with Amuzu on his flank.
In midfield, Noriega occupied spaces without impact. Villasanti brought the most intensity yet seldom joined attacks. Nardoni’s slow movement left him adrift in the press and offered little support.
Tetê had been quiet before delivering the assist. Jovane Cabral mixed in technical errors and had limited involvement. Carlos Vinícius’ best opening was thwarted by a fine save from Walter.
Braithwaite made little impression without supply. Enamorado was booked after a needless spat with Reinaldo and lacked end product on transitions.
Overall the side did enough to merit parity. Castro’s changes failed to shift the attack, and chances remained scarce.
