Wallace Yan faces Bahia at the Maracanã on Sunday at 19:30 Brasília time, seeking to repair his reputation at Flamengo after his red card in the 1-0 defeat in Salvador in October 2025.

According to Globo.com, coach Leonardo Jardim rates the 21-year-old’s versatility across the frontline and sees him as cover for centre-forward Pedro, a gap in the squad. He has asked for patience to rehabilitate players and is not drawing hard lines between starters and reserves. A January move to Red Bull Bragantino collapsed after a trip to São Paulo, with president Bap opting to back his development.

Jardim’s arrival has altered plans, with some players previously out of favour under Filipe Luís given chances and the club eyeing internal solutions. Wallace Yan’s 2025 began brightly, including a Club World Cup goal against Chelsea, then discipline issues reduced his minutes.

He sparked flashpoints against Fluminense in July, assisting the winner, trading barbs with Thiago Silva and arguing with team-mate Danilo. Three meetings with Atlético-MG followed in Copa do Brasil and league, bringing confrontations with Hulk, Lyanco and Everson, two bookings and a missed final penalty in the last-16 second leg shootout as Flamengo went out.

The forward has since sought psychological guidance and upped his work at Ninho do Urubu. Under Jardim he has appeared in four of 10 games, all cameos, and is chasing his first goal of 2026 after seven in 33 last season. He looks for the manager’s faith to translate into minutes.
