Walsall have appointed former Derby County defender Richard Keogh as assistant coach. He links up with head coach Lee Grant, a former team-mate at Pride Park between 2013 and 2017.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Darren Byfield left his role as first-team coach in May after an interim spell, with former assistant Terry Connor also departing. Ryan Simmonds will continue with the senior group as PDP coach.

Keogh retired in 2024 and moved into coaching with Blackpool, later serving as assistant at Barnsley in League One. He also took caretaker charge for four games at Blackpool.

Across a 20-year playing career he is most associated with Derby, scoring 12 goals across eight seasons. He also had spells with Bristol City, Carlisle United, Coventry City, MK Dons, Huddersfield Town and Blackpool.

He made 16 appearances for Ipswich Town in 2022-23 as they won automatic promotion from League One. Internationally, he earned 26 caps for the Republic of Ireland, scoring in a 4-0 win over Georgia in June 2013.
