Walsall complete second summer signing with arrival of Lewis Simper | OneFootball

Walsall have made their second summer signing, bringing in attacking midfielder Lewis Simper on a two-year deal as new head coach Lee Grant shapes his squad for the new campaign.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 24-year-old arrives after two years with National League side Sutton United, registering 19 goal contributions last season, including 12 league goals.

Born in Cambridge, Simper came through the ranks at Cambridge United and signed his first professional contract in 2020. He debuted in the EFL Trophy against Fulham Under-21s and took in several loan spells for senior experience.

His 16-year association with his boyhood club, which began at the age of six, ended in 2024 when he joined Sutton for an undisclosed fee. In his first season he made 45 appearances in all competitions and produced 15 goal contributions, nine goals and six assists.

He built on that in 2025/26 with a further 49 appearances and was voted Players' Player of the Season by his team-mates, having been named the club's joint Player of the Season the previous year.

Grant said he was delighted to add an energetic, goal-minded midfielder who gives everything for the team and he looks forward to helping him progress. He added that Simper joins at an exciting moment in his career and he expects supporters to enjoy watching him in pre-season and beyond.
