Walsall sign Leeds United’s Charlie Crew on season-long loan | OneFootball

Walsall have signed Leeds United’s Charlie Crew on a season-long loan, the 20-year-old becoming their 11th summer arrival.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Crew featured on Leeds’ recent first-team tour of the USA and has two Wales caps. He was born in Cardiff.

He joined Leeds in 2022 for an undisclosed fee after time with Cardiff City from the age of seven. He made his Leeds first-team debut in 2024, replacing Joel Piroe in a 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road.

He joined Doncaster Rovers on loan in January last year, making 13 appearances as Grant McCann’s side won League Two as champions. He returned there on loan last season, playing 17 times before heading back to Leeds in January.

Crew said he was thrilled to join, happy the deal was done and eager to play in front of the fans. Talks with head coach Lee Grant, the style and the club’s ambition attracted him.

He described himself as composed in midfield, keen to progress the ball and bring calm to build-up play. He hopes to play regularly and use past promotion experience at Walsall.

Walsall’s head coach said the club had studied Crew’s qualities and character, and believe he can strengthen midfield options. He cited the player’s calmness, a League Two title and recent League One minutes, and expressed confidence he would fit in well.
