Wanya Marcal ‘training’ with Sheffield Wednesday ahead of free transfer | OneFootball

Wanya Marcal is training with League One side Sheffield Wednesday ahead of a possible free transfer, The Sheffield Star reports.

The 23-year-old left Leicester City at the end of June after 11 years with the club.

Born in Portugal, the winger made 10 first-team appearances and was named in squads under Brendan Rodgers, Enzo Maresca and Marti Cifuentes. He debuted in the 4-1 FA Cup win over Watford in 2022, when Lewis Brunt, Will Alves and Kasey McAteer also featured.

His only senior goal came in a 2-1 victory at Cardiff City in August 2023, after which he was out of the squad until January. He was on the bench for three European fixtures in 2021/22 then spent a season in the Dutch second tier with De Graafschap, scoring once in 14 outings.

Marcal has joined Wednesday’s pre-season group as the club assess him, and both parties are weighing up a move this summer. He is understood to have interest from several teams and could become the latest ex-Leicester player to secure a new club, following Chris Popov, Toby Onanaye and Jahmari Lindsay.
