At 20, Warren Zaïre-Emery has moved from precocious prospect to PSG’s understated leader. After a 5-4 first leg against Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes on 28 April, he has another chance to show it in Munich on Wednesday.

L'Équipe notes he slipped into the senior set-up so naturally that his age is often forgotten. He even debuted for France at 17, far younger than team-mates, with Eduardo Camavinga the next youngest by almost four years.

His first real jolt came in 2024-25, once his baccalaureate was done. An ankle sprain in late January and fierce competition cost him his place, and Gérald Baticle felt he had to rebuild after losing status at Paris and with the seniors. He even stepped back to the under-21s in October.

Caught in the Mbappé non-extension backdrop, the club pushed him as a face of a new PSG, a poor fit for a reserved character. Quietly backed by Luis Enrique, he stayed positive, filled in at right-back and still made 44 starts from 50.

Inside the club there is confidence that Achraf Hakimi’s absence will not derail the return leg, with Zaïre-Emery ready to cover. He has also worn the armband, including in the 2-2 draw with Lorient, and leads more by example than by words.

Grounded by family and focused beyond social media noise, he would play anywhere for the team. Physically fuller and sharper on the ball, the academy graduate now looks a versatile constant in PSG’s project.
