Potentially good news for Arsenal ahead of key Premier League fixtures and Champions League final
Riccardo Calafiori may have handed Arsenal a major injury boost, despite being forced off against West Ham.
Calafiori made his third start in a row for Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, though he did not reappear for the second half, thus emerging as a doubt for the Burnley game next week.
While there is yet to be an update on how serious the Italian’s issue is, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta did reveal the versatile defender had picked up a knock.
“Then we have the Ben White injury, we have to make an adjustment there,” Arteta said in the post-match press conference.
“After then at half-time we had to make another one with Richy's injury.
“After that, I said at half-time to the boys, we're really going to go for it, so be ready because if the game is not panning out in the manner that we have to, we're going to have to change it.”
In a potential boost for Arsenal, who have a Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 - Calafiori’s reaction to Leandro Trossard’s winner at the London Stadium has gone viral on social media.
A video clip uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, shows Calafiori sprinting from the dugout to join in the celebrations.
Arteta is likely to provide an update on Calafiori later this week when he sits down in front of the media to preview Arsenal’s final home match of the season against Burnley.
The Gunners will know ahead of kick-off at the Emirates Stadium whether a win clinches the Premier League title as that scenario is dependent on Manchester City’s result against Crystal Palace this week.
If Pep Guardiola’s side fail to pick up all three points on Wednesday night then Arsenal will be one win away from being crowned champions for the first time in 22 years.
