Barcelona are under pressure to keep pace with Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, but they have fallen behind to Real Oviedo at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere.

Hansi Flick’s side were under the cosh in the early stages, but after getting through that, they could – and should – have scored. Marcus Rashford was denied twice by Oviedo goalkeeper Aaron Escandell, while Raphinha hit the post with a long-range strike.

Barcelona’s inability to score the opener has now cost them, as Oviedo have hit the front – and it’s a moment that Joan Garcia will not want to see again. He came out of his box to collect a ball in behind, but after controlling it, he misplaced a pass that allowed Alberto Reina to score from 35 yards.

It is a terrible error from Garcia, but that does not take away from Reina’s strike, which was absolutely fantastic. It was not easy to find the back of the net from that far out, but he judged it to perfection – much to the delight of the Oviedo faithful.

First error for Garcia after faultless start to Barcelona career

Much has been made of Garcia’s decision to swap Espanyol for bitter rivals Barcelona during the summer, but he has been excellent in the first few weeks of the season. He single-handedly ensured that the Catalans picked up a point against Rayo Vallecano on MD3, and that performance earned plenty of plaudits.

He will be keen to bounce back immediately from this poor moment against Oviedo, and this is also the case for Barcelona. Should they fall to defeat in this one, they would be five points behind Real Madrid after six games played, which would be far from ideal for the reigning La Liga champions. However, there is plenty of time to go for an equaliser to come.
