Raul Asencio was once again the talking point as Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 win over Deportivo Alaves at the Mendizorroza.

Sections of the Deportivo Alaves crowd directed repeated death threats toward the 21-year-old centre-back during the match.

Prior to the match, provocative posters were spotted around the stadium, targeting the player with messages like “Real Madrid, protectors of aggressors” and “get out of here”, reports MARCA.

This became even more evident in game, where the chants of “Asencio, die” echoed throughout the opening minutes.

The supporters referencing the ongoing legal case Asencio is involved in. The Spanish defender remains under investigation in Gran Canaria, accused of sharing an explicit video involving a minor, though the case is still in its early stages and no verdict has been issued.

Despite the intensity of the abuse, referee Soto Grado waited until the 78th minute to activate the official anti-hate protocol — a move that included a brief stoppage in play, a statement over the stadium PA system, and a message displayed on the scoreboard.

Alavés issued a condemnation of all discriminatory and violent behavior, urging fans to support their team with “passion and respect.”

In response, though, the Alaves fans started chanting, “Asencio, scum, get out of Vitoria.”

This was the second time the young player has faced such abuse this season, with the defender earlier being subjected to similar hate in the game against Real Sociedad.
