Former Monaco and PSV striker Myron Boadu has been spotted at Vicarage Road, as the Hornets seek to strengthen their attacking options.

As the summer transfer window heads towards its end, Watford are reported to be in the hunt for a new striker to boost their goal-scoring options.

Still unbeaten after three games of the season, it's been a solid start to 2026-27 for Watford. A win and two draws have left them separated from a play-off place by goal difference only, following a creditable 1-1 draw with West Ham United at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

But within their early season results is concealed the one area in which they could do with improvement at the moment. Their last two games both ended in draws, which hint that the club need a little extra firepower up front.

And reports on Sunday morning are suggesting that they're close to making the addition that they need in the form of Myron Boadu, a tall Dutch striker who impressed earlier in his career with AZ and has even picked up a cap for the Netherlands national team, scoring in his one and only match for his country.

Sky Sports journalist Luca Bendoni has confirmed Watford's interest in Myron Boadu with a post to the social media platform X in which he confirms that the striker was at Vicarage Road on Saturday to watch the Hornets' 1-1 draw with West Ham United.

He confirms that the striker is a free agent. Boadu was released by PSV at the end of 2025-26. He had signed for the club on a one-year contract with an option to extend, but the club chose not to take that option up during the summer.

Bendoni confirms that negotiations have started with the striker over the possible move, but that nothing has yet been concluded. With the transfer deadline set to expire at 11pm on the 1st September, time will be very much of the essence, if Watford are to get this deal over the line in time.

Myron Boadu came up through the ranks at the Dutch club AZ, and the 38 goals in 88 appearances in all competitions that he managed for them were enough to persuade Monaco to spend €17 million on him in 2021.

Having already been capped by the Netherlands at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels by that time, he was considered a real prospect for the future. In November 2019 he scored on his debut for the Netherlands team in a Euro 2020 qualifying match against Estonia, although he hasn't represented his country again since.

But Boadu's four years in the south of France didn't exactly go as he might have hoped. Boadu could only manage ten goals in 68 appearances for the club, and spent spells out on loan back in the Netherlands with Twente and in the Bundesliga with VfL Bochum before returning to his home country to sign for PSV in the summer of 2025.

The concern with Boadu could be his injury history. There have been no big injuries that have hugely set him back, rather a collection of niggles which have seen him play a stop-start role wherever he's been over the last few years.

Having said that, though, this is a striker with huge potential. Although he's already played for five different clubs, he's still only 25 years of age and has the prime years of his career ahead of him, and could hit the jackpot if his goals could help to steer Watford into the Premier League.
