Hull City have failed with a bid worth up to £10m for Watford attacker Nestory Irankunda.

Watford are set for another hectic summer transfer window as they prepare for life under their latest head coach, Alessio Dionisi.

The Italian is inheriting a Hornets squad that finished 16th in the Championship last season, so it’s clear a lot of work is required if they are to push for the play-offs, in the new extended format.

There will be a desire from the hierarchy to improve the group, but that will be difficult, and Watford’s record in the transfer market in recent years doesn’t exactly make for positive reading.

However, one player who does look like a shrewd signing is Nestory Irankunda.

The explosive attacker joined Watford from Bayern Munich last summer, and he had a decent first campaign at Vicarage Road, scoring four goals and registering the same number of assists in 40 games.

Whilst that’s not the best return, it’s no surprise the 20-year-old is not the finished product, and he has shown a lot of quality at times during his year with Watford.

Therefore, it’s perhaps no surprise there is interest in Irankunda, and the Watford Observer has revealed that Hull City have made an offer worth up to £10m for the Australian international.

They explain that the newly-promoted Premier League side bid an initial £8 million with £2 million in add-ons for Irankunda, but it has been rejected by the Hornets.

Yet, this is seen to be below the valuation Watford have for one of their star men, especially as Bayern Munich are thought to have a sell-on clause included as part of their previous agreement, as well as having the chance to buy the Aussie back if they wish.

Watford must stand firm on Nestory Irankunda valuation amid Premier League interest

Irankunda is a huge talent, as he is proving in the World Cup with Australia right now.

He scored a great goal in the Socceroos win over Turkey as they got out of the group, and Irankunda can raise his profile if he continues this form in the tournament, with the Aussies set to play Egypt on Friday night.

Obviously, Watford will be hoping he does put in another massive performance, as that will help them demand a big fee, but, even if they do go out, the Championship side must stand firm on their valuation.

Anyone who has seen Irankunda will be able to recognise his talent and potential. He has blistering pace, he can play in different positions, and he has an intensity with the way he plays.

Crucially, he backs that physicality up with superb technical ability, and he has a great shot with both feet.

Of course, there are areas of his game that he can improve, but that’s to be expected with someone so young, but Irankunda has a huge ceiling in terms of how far he can go in the game.

So, he will be key to Watford next season if he does stay, and the club are right to demand a substantial fee for the forward, as he will be difficult to replace.

Watford fans react as Hull City make £10m Nestory Irankunda bid

As you would expect, this was a talking point among the Watford fans, and most of the comments on social media followed a theme, as they felt the offer made by Hull City wasn’t serious enough.

Meanwhile, this fan believes a fee of around £20m would still represent a smart move for Hull, although there's no indication of whether the Tigers will pay that much.

Finally, this supporter believes Watford should be looking for £30m before they consider selling Irankunda.
