Pedro was unable to help the Blues as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday evening.
It’s now four defeats in a row in all competitions for Liam Rosenior, and the Blues remain outside the Champions League places with seven games remaining.
After a good start the wheels very much appear to have fallen off for Rosenior, and he’s coming under increasing pressure.
Arguably the only player to really improve since his arrival is Pedro, who’s netted 14 league goals and counting this season.
Pedro arrived in a deal worth up to £60m from Brighton last summer, and has been one of very few positives this season, but Rooney feels an upgrade is needed if Chelsea are going to compete for the title.
“I still think the forwards as well,” he told BBC Match of the Day.
“I know Joao Pedro has done well but I think if you’re going to challenge for the big trophies you need that centre forward who is going to inspire you.”
Whether the Blues sign another forward in the summer remains to be seen, but they already have Emmanuel Emegha arriving from Strasbourg.

The Dutch international has signed a seven year deal at Stamford Bridge, and it expected to go straight into the first team squad and compete for minutes.
Emegha knows Liam Rosenior well having scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 under him last season, and it’ll be interesting to see what impact he makes in the Premier League.
