We are going nowhere and will win nothing with Nancy in charge

I’m usually a glass half full kinda guy. I, more often than not, see the positives in life and football is no different…

When the more critical and pessimistic element of our supporters constantly talk our chances down, I like to remain upbeat, and more often than not my optimism is justified with our recent success rate a testament to that.

However, after Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup final defeat to St Mirren I have completely lost that outlook in a football capacity, and my glass now is looking very much half empty.

I was willing to give Wilfried Nancy the benefit of the doubt even after his first two games ended in gutless failure. He after all, had only been afforded a few training sessions with the players since being appointed as Celtic manager. Yes, I wanted him to start work after the Premier Sports Cup Final and had that been the case I’m confident that under Martin O’Neill we’d have beaten both Hearts and St Mirren and would have made a game of it against Roma.

Martin would be leaving with our love and appreciation and we’d be looking forward to seeing the new manager – The Celtic Board’s number one target – taking the team at Tannadice tomorrow night. Instead we’ve got Martin O’Neill telling us that he waited an extra day so that he could brief Nancy but the incoming manager only spoke to the Celtic legend for a quarter of an hour. And Jim Goodwin telling his squad that Dundee United has nothing to fear from Nancy’s Celtic side.

Roma strolled it at Parkhead, Hearts are six points clear again after Martin O’Neill wiped out their eight points lead and St Mirren have lifted the Premier Sports Cup and thoroughly deserved their win over a hapless Celtic, lost Bhoys under Nancy”s system.

Naturally it takes time to gel a side into your philosophy, but with Nancy I’m just not seeing it. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but I can see with my own eyes the debacle that is unfolding in front of me, I’m not deluded, I know when something isn’t right.

The players aren’t buying into the Frenchman’s thinking. It’s clear as day on the park, that each and every one of them looks as flabbergasted as the rest of us by Nancys approach to the game, and they don’t seem to be warming to their new boss. Have you ever seen Callum McGregor loos so angry? Arne Engels and Kieran Tierney too looked bewildered by what was happening.

Once that happens, then there’s no turning back. Nancy has lost the dressing room in just over a week in charge, and no one can tell me otherwise. He has also lost a large percentage of the Celtic support and that figure is only going to rise unless he can get a result at Tannadice.

These Celtic players aren’t bad players, they are proven winners. You don’t just lose your ability and confidence overnight. Martin O’Neill had the same squad of players playing with a fluency, and more importantly he had instilled them with confidence.

Martin boasted a record of seven wins out of eight during his interim spell as Celtic boss. He was also named as Manager of the Month for November and deservedly so. He had the side well drilled, in an attacking sense as well as a secure defensive unit. Then all of a sudden we can’t win, we can’t score, and we look like conceding every time the opposition attack.

That’s all down to the manager. Sadly we don’t look like improving, and are going nowhere under Nancy, except maybe backwards. His system needs to go but without that what is he and why would he be worthy of the Celtic job? It’s a world class mess created by The Celtic Board who will blame everyone and anyone but themselves.

Nancy will speak to the mainstream media today

Nancy will speak to the mainstream media today – we’re banned so won’t be there to ask him about what is going so badly wrong – but the hacks will revel in Celtic’s misfortune, so he is bound to get some tough questions. Not that it will matter.

Nancy is surely finished if he loses tomorrow night at Tannadice, and that could mean Martin O’Neill should be coming back for the game against Aberdeen.
