West Brom will be hopeful that they can build a promotion push back to the Premier League in their first season with Ryan Mason.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder takes on his first full-time managerial job, with a big task on his hands to establish the Baggies back as a regular Premier League outfit.

It does become increasingly difficult to get out of the second-tier due to the lack of financial resources, with the Black Country outfit currently working their way through P&S issues.

Nevertheless, Mason will be hoping that his ideas and philosophies can suit the current playing squad down to the ground and push them towards the top end of the table, as the club looks to make up for the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs last term.

The 2025-26 second-tier season seems very wide open in terms of who can strike a promotion push, and with this in mind, FLW has asked AI to give its thoughts on where Albion will finish come the end of the campaign.

When asking AI about what West Brom’s season looks like, it backed Albion to earn a play-off spot, believing it will squeak into sixth place come the end of the campaign.

It details about Ryan Mason’s fresh managerial approach and being able to inject modern ideas that can benefit previous underperforming players, as well as utilising smart loan deals from the Premier League to bolster the quality of the squad, particularly from his old club Spurs.

AI believes Albion won’t have the consistency to push for automatic promotion, thinking the trio of Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City are stronger on paper with more settled systems, while the Baggies wouldn't be able to put those sorts of results together over a 46-game season to establish themselves as title challengers.

AI has also commented that their journey to sixth place will be far from straight forward, believing Mason’s outfit will have frustrating draws at home, surprise wins away, and a few maddening games where they dominate and concede in stoppage time.

But it expects the side to flourish around March, finding their rhythm and grinding their way into the lottery of the play-offs.

Overall, AI thinks that West Brom just about have the quality in their squad to get a sixth-placed finish, and despite not having quite enough to get much further, they could be a dangerous force to challenge for a place back in the Premier League.

West Brom don’t quite have the depth in certain areas to be able to sustain a consistent level of form in the second-tier right now, but a positive end to the summer transfer window will definitely enhance their chances.

The full-back department is a concern for depth if an injury occurs on either side, while a creative playmaker and another couple of dangerous wide options are needed to turn the Baggies into a free-flowing attacking force under Ryan Mason.

If those additions can be made before the 1st September, then the Albion hierarchy will have done all they can to set the club up for success and have a realistic opportunity of getting back to the big time.
