We can’t complain about Newcastle v Brentford quarter-final scheduling – Advantage United

We now know when our Newcastle v Brentford Carabao Cup quarter-final will be played.

An official club announcement (see below) on Wednesday afternoon revealing the news.

For a place in the semi-finals, Newcastle v Brentford will be played on Wednesday 18 December with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Whilst I am of course hoping now we can put together a very positive run of results in the coming weeks in the Premier League, having picked up those excellent wins against Chelsea (Carabao Cup) and Arsenal (Premier League), I can’t help but look forward six weeks at that Newcastle v Brentford match.

I reckon most of you will be the same.

A game where a win would guarantee Newcastle United still playing Carabao Cup football at least until into February, as this season the final is on 16 March 2025, with the two-legged semi-finals to be played W/C Monday 6 January 2025 and W/C Monday 3 February 2025.

A two-legged semi-final, anything can happen. If Newcastle United can get through, then whoever we draw I think NUFC can have a real go at them home and away, especially as with the extended league formats in the European competitions, those clubs are set to have loads of extra matches in January and February.

So, it is all about making it into that semi-final draw, then giving it our best shot.

Nothing is guaranteed of course but getting any kind of advantage for this Newcastle v Brentford quarter-final can only be welcomed.

Eddie Howe’s side have a 3pm home match against Leicester on Saturday 14 December, with then four days until the cup quarter-final on Wednesday 18 December (7.45pm).

In contrast, before our cup match, Brentford have another tough away match at Chelsea, plus they play on Sunday 15 December, with a 7pm kick-off!

Any small margin is a help and actually, I think this is more than that, quite a significant advantage the way the respective schedules have worked out in the lead up to this massive chance of getting to another League Cup semi-final.

Newcastle playing at home in both of these Leicester and then the Brentford cup matches, plus the extra rest and recovery for the players, as well as the extra time Eddie Howe will have to prepare, compared to Thomas Frank.

It is very much game on for United and I can’t wait for this to come around!

Official announcement on Newcastle v Brentford – Wednesday 6 November 2024:

‘A date has been set for Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford.

The Magpies beat Chelsea 2-0 to book their place in the last eight of the competition for the third year in a row, having earlier seen off Nottingham Forest and AFC Wimbledon in the second and third rounds respectively.

They will now face the Bees at St. James’ Park for a place in the two-legged semi-final, with that game now confirmed for 7:45pm GMT on Wednesday, 18th December.

The tie will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports+.

Any further details concerning the game, including ticket information, will be confirmed in due course.’
