The Argentine hasn’t been out of the headlines since he first cast doubt over his future after the 8-2 aggregate defeat against PSG in the Champions League.
Fernandez made further comments in regards to his future over the international break, and a possible move to Real Madrid.
Chelsea have now taken action against the 25-year-old, with Liam Rosenior confirming Fernandez will be suspended for the next two games against Port Vale and Manchester City.
Pastore has criticised the decision and feels it’s unfair, and that the World Cup winner did nothing wrong, but the decision isn’t going to be reversed.
It’s unlikely to help make Fernandez think Stamford Bridge is the right place for his future, although he had been in contract negotiations.
Pastore has confirmed those negotiations and revealed an agreement wasn’t reached because Fernandez deserves much more money than he’s currently earning.
“There have been talks about renewing his contract, yes,” he told The Athletic.
“We started discussing it around December or January, but we couldn’t reach an agreement.
“As Enzo’s contract still has six years to run, we decided not to renew it because the terms weren’t right for us or for the player; given what Enzo is capable of today, he deserves much more than he’s currently earning.”
