FC Bayern’s dream of reaching the Champions League final has been shattered. After the 1:1 draw in the semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, the Munich side are very disappointed. Manuel Neuer in particular was visibly crestfallen after the game and spoke openly about the reasons for their defeat to the defending champions

FC Bayern had high hopes after the spectacular 4:5 in the first leg, but suffered the first blow after just three minutes. Ousmane Dembélé gave Paris Saint-Germain an early 1:0 lead and increased the pressure on Munich enormously

Despite a committed performance, the German record champions were unable to break down the French side’s defense for a long time, with Harry Kane only scoring in the 94th minute to equalize the score at 1:1 – too late to turn around the defeat from the first leg

It was particularly bitter from Bayern’s point of view: the team came close to turning the game around for long stretches, an impression that was confirmed by Manuel Neuer in an interview with DAZN after the final whistle

„We weren’t killers in attack today,“ explained the Bayern captain openly. At the same time, the 40-year-old made it clear that there were certainly opportunities to reach the final. „We had the chance to win the game today, but perhaps we didn’t have the 100 per cent chances today,“ analysed Neuer

The experienced goalkeeper was one of Bayern’s strongest players on the pitch despite being ruled out, making several strong saves to keep his team in the game and prevent the dangerous PSG attack from conceding further goals

The 2014 world champion showed his class on several occasions, particularly against Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and saved FC Bayern from going even further behind

The disappointment after the final whistle was all the greater: „We saw that we were very close to the final, but we couldn’t finish it off,“ said Neuer

The Bayern captain was particularly critical of the lack of consistency in the final third: „Unfortunately, our goal came too late. We were missing that key moment in the game today. It wasn’t clear enough in PSG’s box today,“ explained the Bayern captain

As a result, FC Bayern’s dream of a Champions League triumph ended in the semi-finals despite a strong European season overall.
