FC Barcelona star Pedri reached another significant career milestone at Wembley, making his 50th appearance for Spain in the 3-2 Nations League victory over England.

The Barcelona midfielder, still only 23, has accumulated those caps in little more than five years since making his senior international debut against Greece in March 2021. In that time, he has gone from promising newcomer to one of the established figures in Spain’s midfield.

Speaking to Spanish national-team media, Pedri admitted he had not expected to reach the landmark so quickly. He said:

“Reaching 50 matches is a big milestone, and it’s a very significant achievement. To be honest, I didn’t expect to reach it so quickly.”

His international career has developed at a remarkable speed, and since his debut, Pedri has featured in two European Championships and a World Cup, while becoming one of the players Spain increasingly look to for control and progression in midfield. He also reflected on the circumstances surrounding his first appearance, recalling the Covid restrictions and the importance of players such as Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres in helping him settle into the national-team setup.

That continuity has become one of the defining themes of his Spain career, that despite the trophies and growing number of appearances, Pedri stressed that the relationships built along the way remain among the things he values most.

For Barcelona, the milestone is another reminder of how central he has become at both club and international level, whereas for Spain, it marks the latest stage in a career that already carries considerable experience despite Pedri still being years away from his peak.

Fifty caps at 23 is impressive enough, and the more significant point is that he has already become one of the reference points of this Spain side.
