Werder Bremen are prepared to offer long-term injured Mitchell Weiser a new contract.

"We are aware of Mitch’s importance to the team and have signaled to his side that we would like to extend the contract," Werder sporting director Clemens Fritz told Deichstube.

The 31-year-old right-back is out of contract this summer. He has yet to make an appearance this season.

Weiser tore his cruciate ligament in mid-July and remains on the comeback trail.

He had been influential for Werder, with 14 goals and 29 assists in 123 games.
