Victor Boniface delivered a sharp response to a journalist's questions during his official unveiling at Werder Bremen on Tuesday, September 3. The Nigerian international was clearly unimpressed by inquiries about his physical condition following the collapse of his transfer to AC Milan.
Boniface's name had been linked persistently with Milan throughout the summer transfer window. The Lombardy club had reached an agreement with Leverkusen for a paid loan with an option to buy. However, after several medical examinations in Italy, the Milanese management decided not to move forward with the deal. When questioned about his fitness, the 24-year-old striker didn’t mince his words.
"Who talked about my physical condition? You can believe whatever you want in the media. That doesn’t concern me. So if the media say I’m a good guy, you believe it. If they say I’m a bad guy, you believe it. What they say in the media is their business. I don’t care. If my body wasn’t at 100%, I’d be in the hospital. I wouldn’t be here talking to you," replied Victor Boniface.
The loan move to Werder Bremen is a chance for the Nigerian international to get his career back on track. The Weser club is banking on his attacking talent to bolster their forward line and is hoping to see Boniface return to the form that helped Leverkusen secure their historic Bundesliga title.
