FLW reports live from The Hawthorns for this Championship fixture
Hull City stretched their recent run in the Championship to one defeat in seven games with a hard-fought point against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies were dominant when it came to openings for much of the contest and saw Isaac Price net his first goal for the club with a sublime volley with 67 minutes on the clock.
However, Abu Kamara was on hand to net his fourth goal of the season for Ruben Selles' side as he bundled the ball home from close range 12 minutes later.
The first opening would come eight minutes into the contest as Mikey Johnston was able to drift inside from the left flank, before seeing his curling effort drift away from Ivor Pandur's net.
Albion's patient build-up would see chances then fall the way of John Swift, whose initial effort was only half-cleared by the Tigers, before a smart cross from Isaac Price was met well by Adam Armstrong, but his deft flick lacked the required power.
Mason Burstow was one of two changes for Hull, and he was the first to try his luck for Selles' side, with a first-time effort looping just over the top of the bar on 13 minutes.
A fast break from the Baggies then saw the ball fall at the feet of Johnston, who showed Lewie Coyle a clean pair of heels before firing straight at Pandur from inside the box.
The hosts continued to find joy out wide, with Jayson Molumby firing an inviting cross across the six-yard box which just evaded the onrushing Karlan Grant.
Just before the half-hour mark, Armstrong was brought down by Charlie Hughes after the Southampton loanee looked to run one-on-one with Pandur, before John Swift's subsequent free-kick was fired straight into the Hull wall.
Molumby and the home supporters then saw appeals for a penalty waved away by Jeremy Simpson after the Irishman was involved in a tussle with Regan Slater.
Mowbray's side were once again able to utilise their pace in transition after a Hull corner was initially cleared, with Grant's fizzing ball falling just centimetres ahead of Armstrong who looked to connect with a diving header.
The 28-year-old would see another golden opportunity come his way five minutes before the break as Kyle Bartley sent a raking ball into Molumby's path, with the midfielder cutting it back to Price, who played in Armstrong before the striker blazed his effort over the bar from eight yards out.
City would then look to make Albion pay for the abundance of missed opportunities as a counter-attack saw Burstow fed down the left, with Regan Slater allowed the time and space to fire a low ball in which would be cleared only as far as Matt Crooks, with the former Middlesbrough man's curling effort going just wide of the mark.
The final chance of the first period came in the last 90 seconds, as the versatile Price fired a first-time volley into the Smethwick End.
West Brom would start the second period with the same intensity, and after the Irish duo of Molumby and Johnston linked up smartly, Swift was extremely unfortunate to see his drive crash off the bar.
The as-ever composed Hughes was then able to drift into an advanced wide position for Hull, with Crooks sending a looping header from the defender's cross over the bar, all within the first three minutes of the half.
Albion's defence were then nearly caught red-handed by some quick thinking by Hughes, who sent a low ball into the box amid offside claims from the Baggies, as his ball fizzed past Kyle Joseph whilst Wildsmith was grateful to see it drift wide.
11 minutes into the half, Pandur was at full-stretch to pull off a magnificent save as Price connected first-time with Torbjorn Heggem's deflected cross, before Johnston blazed a powerful close-range strike over the bar from the resulting corner.
On 64 minutes, Hull substitute Abu Kamara was hacked down by Heggem, before Joe Gelhardt tried his luck with a speculative free-kick which curled just over Wildsmith's right-hand post.
Johnston remained a constant threat on the West Brom left, and after he once again used his speed of thought and tricks to evade Coyle and Kamara, substitute Grady Diangana's nonchalant flick was met by a fierce Molumby drive which was thwarted by Slater.
After dominating proceedings for the majority of the contest, the West Midlands outfit would find the breakthrough on 67 minutes as Price fired home from 18 yards out after an initial Johnston corner was cleared into the Northern Irishman's path, netting his first goal for the club following his recent switch from Standard Liege.
The right-back went close to doubling his tally for the afternoon with 13 minutes left on the clock after firing yet another volley through bodies, but seeing it fly past Pandur's right-hand post on this occasion.
However, the visitors would equalise from their next attack as Kamara scored his fourth of the season, with the former Norwich City man bundling home Kasey Palmer's looping header from a wicked Coyle cross on 79 minutes.
Similarly to their midweek antics, Hull went close to making a swift turnaround on the scoreboard as Wildsmith pulled off a remarkable double save to deny two fizzing efforts from Gelhardt and Fenerbahçe loanee Lincoln, before Grady Diangana somehow spurned a header wide from the centre of the box for the hosts.
In the final minute of the 90, Pandur was on hand to keep the scores level, with the Croatian rushing out of his box as substitute Will Lankshear looked to latch on to Mason Holgate's lofty pass.
Albion would then have Wildsmith come to their aid once more as Palmer sent Joseph through, with Gelhardt letting the striker's through ball run into Kamara's path, but the keeper was able to spread himself quickly to deny the winger a second of the afternoon.
The final chance came Daryl Dike's way in the third minute of stoppage time, with the American heading wide, with a point seeing Albion rise back into the play-off places ahead of Bristol City on goal difference.
Hull have dropped to 19th in the table after Oxford United's victory over Watford at the Kassam Stadium. However, a first point at The Hawthorns since December 2013 could be a vital one in the relegation fight, with a six-pointer against Luton Town to come after the international break.

The attendance at The Hawthorns this afternoon was 24,870.
This included 1,326 travelling supporters.
This result saw Albion draw for the 18th time in 38 games, with Mowbray left feeling disappointed with the outcome afterwards.
"Obviously, we're left feeling frustrated and disappointed," he began.
"Did they deserve a draw? Maybe. I think we just have to be more ruthless with the chances we create, the pressure we can build and the possession we have. We've got to have more end product."
"My analyst said we had 16 shots but only three on target," Mowbray stated. "The percentage isn't high enough, we've got to hit the target eight times rather than three or four."
"I knew they were a pretty well-coached team, and they're fighting hard for each other. I could see that in their recent games."
"They're (Hull) a good team. I think their position belies what they've got as a group. That's why I said it would be a dangerous game."
"We have to put the point in the bag and move on to the next one. I'm just frustrated that we aren't 2-0 or 3-0 up. At 1-0, you're always susceptible, and I felt that's what happened today," the Albion boss concluded.
The Tigers were able to extend their recent unbeaten streak to four games, with two draws on the road against play-off hopefuls in the form of Albion and Bristol City, either side of pivotal home successes against Plymouth and Oxford.
Speaking post-match, Selles believed it was an entertaining spectacle and was pleased with his side's continued improvement of late.
"I think it's a big point," the City head coach began. "We knew it was a difficult game coming here."
"I think the first half, they were really good - we had difficulties holding them, especially in possession."
"Second half, we were better, competitive," Selles stated. "We concede the goal from the corner which is a really good finish."
"With the substitutions, we changed the dynamic of the game, we score the goal, could've scored a second, we have the situation with Lincoln. I think we showed we could come and get the three points."
"I think it was a really good game, and I think the neutral spectator watching would've had a good afternoon here," the Spaniard added.
"I think we are competitive, and that is our main target."
"We want to be competitive every game and it doesn't matter who the opponent is, we make the game about us and how we can get better and better."
"Today we proved that, as we have proven in other games."
