West Brom face a possible points deduction before the season ends, a twist that could reshape the Championship survival fight and affect Leicester.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Albion are being investigated for a potential breach of EFL Profit and Sustainability rules in the 2024/25 accounting period. The league is examining interest payments on loans taken under previous ownership, while the club says it has complied.

EFL guidelines state any sanction should be applied in the same season the breach is identified to protect sporting integrity. There is no set date, but officials are reportedly pushing to settle the case before the campaign finishes.

The uncertainty clouds the relegation picture for several clubs, including Leicester. West Brom are 21st, five points above Leicester, and any deduction could pull them into the bottom three.

Interim head coach James Morrison has told players and staff not to discuss the situation before Saturday's meeting with Preston, insisting focus stays on the pitch.

Leicester manager Gary Rowett said he will not use the saga as an excuse, but urged a swift decision if it is to land this season, arguing it would be hard to impose in the final week.

Rowett added that his approach will not change, mirroring how he handled Leicester’s appeal against their own points deduction.
