West Bromwich Albion said in a statement that they have fully complied with the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules after acknowledging media reports about an alleged breach, that they are co-operating with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit and look forward to resolving the matter, that the team’s final four matches remain the absolute priority with thanks to supporters for their backing, and that it would not be appropriate to comment further.
Albion have been charged by the EFL with an alleged breach of its profit and sustainability regulations and could face sanctions if found guilty.
Possible penalties include a points deduction, a fine or a transfer ban.
They sit two points above the drop zone, so any sanction could shape the fight to avoid relegation to the Championship.
James Morrison’s side are targeting a finish above the bottom three.
